Chairman of Charnwood Citizens Advice Bureau, David Rodgers will be running the Brighton Marathon to raise money for the charity based service on the 6th April.
With 50 years working with the CAB, Mr Rodgers, aged 71, hopes to raise money to support the service, which offers voluntary advice to members of the public within the Charnwood area. He said: ''It is a charity which does a great deal of good for a great number of clients. Much of its services are delivered by volunteers. In short, it deserves all the support that it can get.''
The Brighton marathon, which is the second largest running event in the UK, seemed a natural choice for Mr Rodgers as his daughter and her partner live in the town.
With past running experience in his late 40's and 50's, including a 3 hour 45 minute run in the London marathon, Mr Rodgers hopes to re ignite his interest with organised running. He said: ''I am now reaching 72, so I need to get on with it.''
Having stepped up his training to six days a week, including five short runs during week days, and a challenging run from Barrow Upon Soar to the Beacon and back every Sunday, Mr Rodgers said: '' I feel all ready to go.''
